When Emily Mowbray asked if the church was available for a concert to help her and Polly Virr raise funds for Project Agape supporting a music teaching trip to Aboadze in Ghana, Music for All @ SMSG were very pleased that we were able to arrange the concert for the first day of StonyLive 2016 on Saturday 4 June. Emily plays violin and Polly is a cellist and they gave a wonderful evening of music for us to enjoy. At the last minute they invited their friend Hannah Slavin to play a piece on piano too.
Their programme:
Polly (cello)
- Gabrielli - Ricercar no. 1 & 5
- J. S. Bach - Cello Suite no. 1 in G major, BWV 1007
- Summer - Julie-O
Emily (violin)
- J.S.Bach - Violin Partita no. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004
- Milstein - Paganiana
Polly and Emily
- Handel-Halvorssen - Passacaglia: from Handel's Suite no. 7 in G minor for Harpsichord
Interval

- Massenet - Meditation from Thais
- Monti - Czardas, arranged by Emily
- Kreisler - Schon Rosmarin, arranged by Emily
- Saint-Saens - The Swan from Carnival of the Animals
Hannah Slavin (Piano)

Polly and Emily
- Vivaldi - Summer from the Four Seasons: Presto
- Faure - Apres un Reve
- Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody, arranged by Emily
During the afternoon when they were rehearsing some people popped into the church to listen. One of those visitors said "If you sold beer, this place would be packed out - people say they go to the pub for the music, but they don't, they go for the beer. But they won't hear anything half as wonderful as this in the pub."
Comments after the concert included:
"Stunning"
"Marvelous"
"So enjoyed this evening"
"Wonderful arrangements of some well know pieces"
Emily and Polly raised £390 towards their music teaching trip to Ghana next year and £76.32 was raised on refreshments for the organ maintenance. Thanks to Lesley for all the arrangements and Sue, Sandra and May for helping with refreshments and box office on the night.
