This September 2019 concert was characterised by real spirit and skill from the Church Band. As usual, the content had been carefully chosen both to provide a very entertaining selection as well as an opportunity to showcase musical talent.
The performances ranged from Charpentier’s Te Deum Prelude to Les Miserables’ ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ and from Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ to a Strauss march. There really was something for everyone’s taste, including opportunities for audience participation: ‘Summertime’ and ‘I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles’ invited people to sing along.
Dave King’s medley from ‘The Desert Song’ drew enthusiastic applause and there were many opportunities for all instruments to shine.
The brass and woodwind sections complemented each other especially in Lionel Ritchie’s ‘Hello’, but there was wonderful playing from everyone. An audience member said, ‘They seem to show such understanding of the music.’
Thank you for a great concert and thanks also to Gill, Jean and Fiona for serving refreshments and to Lesley for organising the concert.
