On the Queen’s 90th birthday, a large and colourful audience welcomed local band, Fadin' Shoes. The band members, Andy, Les and Tim, gave us a concert with a celebratory feel, rocking us through a variety of songs and instrumental pieces. The school children in the audience, patriotically dressed in red, white and blue, listened enthusiastically and clapped along to the beat.
The variety of music ranged from country and western to timeless Beatles’ numbers, amongst them ‘Here, there and everywhere’ and ‘Something’. We were also treated to a stirring version of ‘Drummer Boy’, ‘Streets of London’ and Rheinhardt’s glorious ‘Swing 42’. More variety from this versatile trio included songs from both The Eagles and The Traveling Wilburys.
On such a special day, it was a real treat to listen to such talented players, especially as they had stepped in at short notice. Their final piece, ‘Amazing Grace’, was a gentle and poignant way to conclude the concert.
Afterwards, children from St Mary and St Giles School agreed that the Beatles’ songs were their favourites – one even had a Beatles lunch box to prove his fan-ship!
As always, the refreshments were first class and thanks go to Fiona, Jean and Gill for their efficient service.
There were 65 people in the audience, 30 of whom were children. £56.32 was raised for the organ.
