Tuesday lunchtime brought us a new group to perform as part of our StonyLive! programme. Stony Harmonies is an intimate and inclusive choir who meet on Tuesday lunchtimes for an hour in which they sing any cobwebs or clouds away. They have an eclectic repertoire which has covered Byrd canons, folk songs from around the world and Jazz rounds, with a little bit of Gospel thrown in!
It's an exciting time as they have been singing together for just eighteen months or so and are still evolving! They meet at York House on Tuesdays at 1pm and would love to welcome any new members who are keen to sing. There are no auditions and no previous experience is required. Their Musical Director, Lucy Bignall, has been running choirs for about ten years now. She trained and worked first as a violinist, both in England and Australia, working with artists as diverse as Burt Bacharach, Tim Minchin and Paris Opera Ballet, but has found that working with choirs has been one of the most rewarding experiences she has had.
Stony Harmonies lived up to their billing, bringing clear and pleasant harmonies to a variety of songs new and old and of various styles. They engaged the audience in singing along, with vocal tuition thrown in! They created a gentle, happy atmosphere and certainly left us wanting hear them again. Lucy also gave us the pleasure of the haunting tones of her violin, playing Ashokan’s Farewell. We are pleased to have had the opportunity to hear this new and evolving group and thank them for coming to St Mary & St Giles on their rehearsal day to share their lovely sounds with us.
