During the last week of term there were 3 school Nativity plays in St Mary and St Giles Church (Russell Street and SMSG schools) followed on Sunday 18th December by children from the churches of St Mary & St Giles, Stony Stratford and All Saints, Calverton who performed their Nativity play. SMSG church band accompanied this event and it was narrated, this time by Ray Rowlson as the children were not given lines to learn - they mimed to the story.
We have a lovely collection of costumes built up over the years and in the Sunday mornings leading up to the Nativity play the children were given their parts and tried on costumes. This year one child wanted to be the donkey so a headband with ears was made and a grey tunic used.
The band played the following carols during the Nativity play:
- The Angel Gabriel
- Little Donkey
- Silent Night
- A Starry Night
- Follow the Star
- Away in a Manger
There are processions around the church - first by Mary, Joseph and the Donkey (who used coconut shells for clip clop sounds), secondly by the shepherds with their sheep and finally by the three kings.
