Doreen Griffin and friends put together a lovely programme of piano, flute and vocal music for our fifth Musical Bite Coffee morning of this season. Doreen (piano), Angie Newcombe (soprano) and Angela Bowen (mezzo-soprano) had played and sung for us at Musical Bite 3 in December, this time they brought their friend Rosemary Scott who played both piano and flute (though not at the same time!) which gave their programme even more variety than before. We had piano duets, vocal solos with piano, flute solos, and vocal duets, with the music ranging from classical to musicals.
The glorious cold, sunny weather helped encourage the audience out of their homes into the high street and the church, at one point we had 45 people of all ages listening to the music as they enjoyed their refreshments (many stayed all morning), which was very gratifying and the atmosphere was relaxed and happy (including in the kitchen where the team were busy serving tea, coffee, cakes, cupcakes and flapjacks).
I would like to thank Doreen, Angie, Angela and Rosemary for a superb morning of entertainment, the refreshment team (Fiona, Kath, Jean, Gill, Dave and Lesley), Jane for selling whole cakes and telling people about pipe sponsorship and David for doing the announcing. We raised £166.24 for the organ fund which was a great result.
