Sunday 16 October was a good day for an afternoon concert involving many local performers. The Parish Singers, SMSG Church band, handbell ringers, SMSG Junior School orchestra and school choirs from both SMSG Junior School and Queen Eleanor School came together to celebrate the joy of amateur music making.

As usual Kath and Lesley had chosen a good variety of choral pieces for the Parish Singers and friends to sing, both secular and sacred.

The band continued its tradition of introducing new pieces in its repetoire at the Autumn concert with three pieces only recently learned.

The Handbell ringers proudly showed off their rendition of The Toreador Song which they had videod and sent off to the BBC for the big online performance to co-incide with the BBC proms.  They did really well with it as it isn't easy to play on handbells.

However as always the children stole the show.  For the first time the two school choirs performed together - they had co-ordinated the music they sang so although they mostly rehearsed separately (there was only one joint rehearsal) they came together well for their final piece 'Thank you for the music' - they even sang in harmony with QE choir singing the descant while SMSG choir sang the soprano / harmony line.

For the first time the final piece even included the school orchestra.  All the choirs, the band, handbell ringers and school orchestra assembled for a favourite from the movie 'Toy Story' which went down very well.

We received some lovely feedback the following day from one of the teachers who had prepared the children for their performance:

"Thank you, Lesley and all the 'Music for all' team for such a lovely afternoon. The children were able to perform in a relaxed, appreciative atmosphere where they all felt welcome and valued. It is a pleasure to bring the children to such events, free from competition and worry.  Thank you all for your hard work."

The refreshments team did a great job and we raised £198.93 for organ maintenance in donations from the retiring collection and refreshments.  Thank you to Lesley and Kath for organising the concert and all the school music teachers for their help preparing the children.
