The third season of Third Thursday at Twelve-Thirty Lunchtime Concerts got underway on 15 September with SMSG Church Band playing some of their favourite melodies - from Arthur Sullivan to Leonard Cohen, Henry Mancini to the Beatles. SMSG School Orchestra sat among the Band and played Postman Pat and The Blues on their own and then reprised them with the Church Band joining in. As it was only the second week of term, the children had participated in only two practices with these new pieces of music and all the Year 5 members were away on a school residential trip! However, they rose to the occasion very well and made a lovely sound.
Both groups were given a rest and a chance to grab a drink while we welcomed 'Lickerish Allsorts', a clarinet trio, who played 10 minutes of popular and varied tunes to delight us all. We will look forward to hearing them for longer next June during StonyLive! Week. Not only did they sound good, they were also a visual delight in their jolly 'Liquorice Allsorts' outfits!
The audience was very encouraging and appreciative and took part too, singing two hymns and Old MacDonald with gusto!
Thank you to Mrs Noon for accompanying the school orchestra so beautifully and for bringing them to the concert - we love the school children coming to share our music making, whether as performers or audience.
Thank you to our faithful TT@TT kitchen crew - and for donations of £40.50 towards the upkeep of our Willis Organ.
