St Mary & St Giles Church Band started off our regular Third Thursday @ Twelve-Thirty Lunchtime Concerts in September 2014. In May 2017 it was the band's seventh TT@TT appearance and another one where we welcomed young people to join us.
St Mary & St Giles School Orchestra sat amongst the Band and viewed at close range the music being played, while they munched their sandwiches. Star Wars, Harry Potter, Yellow Submarine and Hallelujah were tunes recognisable to all ages and many sang along.
The newly formed Belleplate Ringers from SMSG South Site made their first public appearance to a very enthusiastic audience. A Peal of Bells and Baa Baa Black Sheep were easily recognised and it was lovely to see the group satisfaction and smiles after their debut in public.
The Orchestra at SMSG North Site then performed four pieces with the Band joining in with them the second time around on each piece. The Band took a tea break while the Orchestra played Movie Buster and Five Jive on their own, to much applause.
The concert ended with the Band playing Aura Lee, You've got a friend in me and Wallace and Gromit, encouraging the young musicians to play along with them.
There was lots of tea, great music and laughter - thank you to all the performers, helpers and audience. We look forward to June, when the whole concert will be performed by children.
£34.76 was kindly donated to our organ fund.
