Trying handbell ringing during StonyLive

Trying handbell ringing during StonyLive

Handbell ringing is a team event, requiring no prior knowledge, but a sense of humour is essential!  The aims of this StonyLive Wednesday afternoon concert and ‘have a go’ session were to demonstrate the fun of tuned ringing and to give anyone who would like to, a chance to try it out.

We began by playing ‘Triumphal Fanfare’, as befits the start of a concert and followed it up with a medley of nursery rhymes to appeal to our young listeners and to jog the memories of the older ones present!

Both children and adults were very keen to ‘have a go’ and we were delighted to have them join us in ringing ‘A Peal of Bells’. To make it a little easier to start with, our new ringers used Belleplates - an easier (and much cheaper) version of handbells.  It was great that a three year-old was able to ring with us, with a little help from her Mum.

The progression was made to the handbells and it was great fun to ring together.  Well done all, especially to our guest Handbell Hooley Ringers. We hope we have inspired some new talent for the art of Handbell ringing.
