Geoffrey Allan Taylor & Valerie Kirby-Ashmore, Piano & Violin Tuesday, 4th June
Geoffrey started the concert with a beautiful piano solo from the film ‘49th Parallel’, as a commemoration if the 75th anniversary of the D Day Landings.
Valerie played from ‘Ladies in Lavender’ - a connection to the sea from a particular scene.
Moving on to dry land Geoffrey played the theme from James Herriot and ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ and ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’ from The Wizard of Oz.
These led into three pieces by Valerie from that other wizard - Harry Potter!
A special arrangement by Geoffrey for Valerie came next: ‘Chariots of Fire’ by Vangelis - bringing back memories of the film of 1981 or maybe Rowan Atkinson’s one note starring role in 2012!
More heroics from The Deer Hunter, a solo by Geoffrey of ‘Cavatina’.
Valerie then played John Williams’ ‘Schindler’s List’ - another link to WWll.
Then the dramatic prelude to Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho and music from ‘Howard’s End’, played by Geoffrey.
Another arrangement by Geoffrey especially for Valerie and the violin from the 1945 film ‘Brief Encounter’.
To finish we were treated to the theme from Superman!
As soloists or duettists, Geoffrey and Valerie gave a splendid concert of exquisite playing and evoked in us past memories from their interpretation of the beautiful music.
