Voice Versa performed a lovely concert for the organ fund this evening in St Mary & St Giles Church. Each programme item was preceded by introductions read out from different postcards of various places or objects which related to the programme items.
They started with 'Wish you were here' and followed this with a song by Sting (real name G M Sumner) - their rendition of Fields of Gold was stunning.
The programme contained humour, including the two readings (the extract by James Herriot about his son Jimmy playing the piano at a recitial was hilarious, as Kevin read it with just the right emphasis). Other highlights included The Gnu song by Flanders & Swann (Clive and Kevin), the "Catalogue" Aria from Don Giovanni (Simon's solo), Flower Duet from Lakme (Valerie and Ann) and Ann's vocal solo of the Minute Waltz. Their pianist Marjorie played two lovely solos on the piano.
We didn't have a large audience tonight (29) but everyone there was appreciative of the music and how it was performed. We had delicious refreshments during the interval (thanks Shirley), and a raffle. The profit from the retiring collection after minor expenses was £173.98 (plus some gift aid). I would like to thank Valerie, Ann, Clive, Kevin, Simon and Marjorie for entertaining us (we hope you can come again) and all the organ fund group for helping with setting things up, serving refreshments, operating the raffle and tidying away afterwards.
