On Saturday 4th April 2009 at 3.00 pm the St Mary & St Giles Parish Singers are presenting our annual Lent Cantata as a devotional performance. This year we are singing The Passion according to St Mark with music by Charles Wood, and arranged as a liturgical devotion by Eric Milner-White.
Charles Wood (1866 – 1926) produced his St. Mark Passion for King’s College Chapel, Cambridge (following a request from the Provost around 1920) and it was first performed during Holy Week 1922.
The Parish Singers and friends will be conducted by Andrew Storer
The 3 Manual Willis Organ will be played by James Wharton
Our Soloists are: Matthew Lucas (Christus), Peter Eales (Evangelist), David Scrutton (High Priest, Judas, Pilate) and Jude Kirk (solo soprano).
Everyone is very welcome and entrance is free. This is an opportunity to hear the organ play outside of normal services and is not a fundraising event, although gift aid envelopes and pipe sponsorship forms will be available as usual in the Church for anyone wishing to make a donation at this event.
