A small but eager audience enjoyed a very pleasant evening of chamber music by Valerie Kirby-Ashmore (violin) Geoffrey Allan Taylor (piano) on Tuesday 13 May. Valerie and Geoffrey have come to SMSG twice before and this time they performed music by Mozart and his contemporaries.

Their music included:

  • Largo from Sonata IV. BWV 1017. for violin and keyboard - Bach
  • Fugue in C minor No. 2. Book II. from the Well -Tempered Klavier - Bach
  • Sonata No. 9. K. 377. Allegro, Andante Variations, Tempo di Minuetto - Mozart
  • Sonata No. 54. Hob. XVI / 40. Presto - Haydn
  • Presentiment to Spring - Allan Taylor
  • Sonata No 5. Op. 24. (‘Spring’) Allegro 1st. Movement - Beethoven

Then there was an interval during which tea and coffee were served and homemade nibbles made by Shirley. David told the audience about the Willis Organ Project.

The recital continued with...

  • Fugue in E Major No. 9. from Book II. from the Well -Tempered Klavier - Bach
  • Pastorale for violin and piano - Vaughan Williams
  • Ornithophony Landscape from Arcadian Inventions - Allan Taylor
  • Fugue in E Flat major. K. 153 - Bach
  • Sonata No.7. K. 376. for violin and piano. Allegro, Andante, Allegretto grazioso - Mozart

Well it is May and it did rain during the recital - perhaps a late April shower? But we were lucky enough to hear a cuckoo! Which piece in the recital do you think we heard it?

Many thanks to the audience for coming, to Dave and Marian for moving the piano and serving refreshments, to Shirley for the nibbles and especially to Valerie and Geoffrey.  A total of £60 was raised for the organ fund which will pay for two Nazard pipes.
