Kirsty pulled together a fine concert of the Best of British Music which took place in St Mary & St Giles Church on 11th May as part of the Stony Arts and Heritage Appreciation events.  This was a trip through the ages of British music so the concert started with Sands Cryers who were all dressed up in Elizabethan inspired costumes and sang a series of 5 songs with the theme of love, and worked right through 500 years of music to specially arranged versions of Greensleeves and Jerusalem sung by MK Gospel Choir and Willen Hospice Choir at the end of the concert.

The programme was:

Sands Cryers (MD Jerry Breslin)

Fair Phyllis I Saw (John Farmer)
    Come Again (John Dowland)

  • A New Jerusalem (arr Kirsty Morris Selley)

This was the debut public performance by Willen Hospice Choir and they with MK Gospel choir did a great job with the new arrangements of Greensleeves and Jerusalem.  Andrew’s piano solos brought out some lovely sounds from the instrument, and the three vocal soloists Sofia, Helen and James provided an enjoyable journey through a variety of songs.

There were about 80 people in the audience many of whom had not been to SMSG church before.  Once again the refreshment team did a great job filling cups in a short period of time.  I would like to thank Kirsty and all the performers for a wonderful evening of music, and all the organ fund team who helped with front of house.  We raised a magnificent total of £489.36 for the organ fund – so a big thank you to Kirsty for volunteering the concert and doing so much to make it a great success.
