Today MK Acapella and friends treated us to an evening of Barbershop in St Mary & St Giles church.  In May last year they offered to sing for the organ fund and it was good to welcome them to the church today. In addition to the main  group of 20 singers their concert had quartet variety in the form of their own club quartet 'Pony Express', visitors 'Vox' (who were placed 5th in the BABS Quartet competition in Harrogate in May) and female soloist Alexandra, who sang several songs from the shows, but also sang one song with MK Acapella.

Their programme was as follows:

MK Acapella

  • We'll sing all we know
  • Sound celebration
  • Can you feel the love tonight?
  • When I'm 64
  • Give my regards to Broadway
  • I'm down and out today

Pony Express

  • Put away your trouble
  • Coney Island Baby
  • Where the blue of the night
  • I love coffee  (Java Jive)
  • I love you (Beatles)

Vox

  • Come fly with me
  • Once upon a time
  • Alleluia
  • Wonderful World
  • Blue Skies

Interval (with wine, juice, tea, coffee and nibbles)

Pony Express

  • Hush a bye Mountain (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang)
  • Heart (you've gotta have)
  • Ain't misbehavin'
  • Goodnight Sweetheart

Alexandra (accompanied by Karen on the piano)

  • Pie Jesu
  • Caro Mio Ben
  • Where am I going to (Evita)
  • Wouldn't it be Luvverly (My Fair Lady)

MK Acapella

  • Like a Rose (with Alexandra)
  • Darkness on the Delta
  • Sweet hour of prayer
  • A spotless Rose
  • How great our joy
  • Hello Mary Lou
  • Orange Coloured Sky

We counted 52 people in the audience, who were very appreciative of the music.  Unfortunately the heating resisted coming on despite Fr Ross setting it, so the church was a little cold, and Alexandra was grateful for the large heavy coat and warm hat that she pulled on to get into character for Eliza Doolittle.

I would like to thank David, Dai, Marian, Sylvia and Shirley for all their help front of house and everyone who attended.  We'd also like to wish Pony Express and Vox every success in their next competition tomorrow.  Thank you MK Acapella and friends for the wonderful music and enjoyable evening.  As a result of your singing we've raised £374.27 for the organ fund, which is great.
